Bishop Wenski invites you to the Festival of Faith, May 8 – 10, 2008
Orange County Convention Center, South Concourse

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

I invite you to join me and thousands of other Catholics for the Diocese of Orlando’s first-ever Festival of Faith, a vibrant and multi-cultural weekend designed to inspire, enlighten and energize all members of our faith.

This historic three-day event will be a celebration of the Diocese of Orlando’s 40th anniversary and our proclaimed “Year of Evangelization”.

There are many ways for you to participate: Come hear an inspiring speaker, listen to a concert, browse through the Catholic Ministry Fair, see a Catholic film, or celebrate our faith at special Masses. All events are free.

Keep reading your Sunday bulletin for weekly information on the many offerings to be found at the Festival of Faith, May 8-10.

Bulletin Announcement – Week #1-2

Alive in Christ Poster Contest for the Festival of Faith, May 8 – 10, 2008
All children and adults are encouraged to enter the Festival of Faith Alive in Christ Poster Contest. All entries will be on display at the Festival of Faith. Winning entries in each category will be featured in The Florida Catholic newspaper and on the Diocesan website and will also have the honor of being placed in a time capsule for the Diocese’s 40th anniversary on June 18, 2008. All art must be original and submitted on 8 1/2 “x 11” paper. Deadline for entries is March 1, 2008

The Festival of Faith is proud to present the first Catholic Film Festival in Orlando.
Films that inspire, encourage and energize your faith will be presented free of charge at the Orange County Convention Center South Concourse on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Three special Masses reflecting the traditions and splendor of the Catholic Church will be celebrated at the Festival of Faith:

Thursday, May 8, 2008, 7:00 p.m., Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine
Multi-Cultural Mass and Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The opening Liturgy for the Festival of Faith will take place on Thursday, May 8 at Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine (8300 Vineland Avenue in Orlando).

Saturday, May 10, 2008, 1:00 p.m., Orange County Convention Center, South Concourse
Wedding Anniversary Mass
All married couples are invited to attend this Mass celebrated by
Bishop Thomas Wenski honoring married couples and the Sacrament of Marriage.

Saturday, May 10, 2008, 5:00 p.m., Orange County Convention Center, South Concourse
The Reception of Baptized Christians into Full Communion of the Catholic Church
Having completed their preparation for life as Roman Catholics, these Christians will be received as members of the Church, and then receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.

During the Festival of Faith learn about the important work being done to help the Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic. See what it takes to build a single-family home during a construction project at the Orange County Convention Center.
The Dreambuilders’ Housing Project aims to build hundreds of new homes in our sister diocese over the next five years for families who are currently living in one room, dirt floor huts built of mud and sticks.

Festival of Faith, May 8 – 10, 2008

What is the Festival of Faith? The Festival of Faith is a three-day gathering of Catholics to rejoice and give thanks for our many blessings, while we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Diocese of Orlando and deepen our faith during 2008’s Year of Evangelization.
Who should attend? All of the nearly 800,000 Catholics who live in the Diocese of Orlando are invited. The Diocese of Orlando is composed of the following counties: Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole, Brevard, Volusia, Marion, Sumter and Polk. However, anyone who would like to learn more about the Catholic faith and join in our celebration is welcome.
Is there an admission charge? No. All of the events are free; however, donations are graciously accepted. We are collecting CANS OF FOOD for Catholic Charities, which distributes food to many agencies in Central Florida, and JARS OF PEANUT BUTTER to send to our sister diocese in the Dominican Republic, San Juan de la Maguana, as part of a healthy breakfast program.
Is it free to park? There is a parking fee of $6.00 charged by the Orange County Convention Center.
Do I have to register for all three days of the Festival? No, you can register to attend one program or as many programs as you would like.
Where do I register? Participants are asked to register so we can plan for the proper accommodations for each session/event. You can register on the website: www.festivaloffaith.org

Young Children Find Fun and Faith at the Festival of Faith, May 8-10, 2008,

Children ages 3-10 will be entertained by the singing Lemire family. Michelle and Bob Lemire and their five children have produced a CD titled Children of Faith. Their performance includes Bible stories, songs and puppets in a delightful interactive show for the entire family.

Pray this Novena for the Festival of Faith, May 8-10, 2008,
Orange County Convention Center

Whether you are planning to attend the Festival of Faith or not, you are asked to support the event and our Year of Evangelization with your prayers. Please pray the following Novena daily for nine days from May 2 through May 10.

Novena Prayer: Father of light and of love, from whom every good gift comes, send forth the power of your Spirit into our lives to renew the Church in our year of evangelization. Open our minds and hearts, and fill us with the virtues of faith, hope and charity. Loosen our tongues to sing your praises and to proclaim the Gospel of Salvation to all. Use us as bold instruments of the New Evangelization. Help us to realize that without your Spirit we could never bring peace and reconciliation to our broken world nor announce the truth that Jesus Christ is Lord. We ask all these things in Jesus’ name, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
