SATURDAY, MAY 10TH YOUTH GATHERING
YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS INVITED
Concert, performance and multi-media presentation by Sal Solo
On Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., youth from around the Diocese of Orlando will unite for Christ during a concert, performance and multi-media presentation by Sal Solo. The youth gathering will take place at the Orange County Convention Center South Concourse, located at 9899 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819.
Sal Solo was lead singer of the 1980s British rock band Classix Nouveaux. They toured 30 countries, playing to audiences of up to 25,000 a time, achieving number one records, gold and silver discs. Today, he sings a different tune. According to a local paper in Wisconsin, "His motivation does not come from success, money or fame. Having been there, Sal Solo has no desire to become a Christian rock star. He stands in the darkness so that all the glory of his songs should be directed to God."
In an age when people are bombarded with videos, computer graphics and all kinds of messages, Sal Solo has devised a unique multimedia presentation which is a compelling and entertaining program of music and pictures presenting the fundamentals of the Catholic faith.
Using the latest computer technology, giant videos bring the Gospel to life in vivid and exciting fashion, while the audience claps and sings, but at other times, sits motionless as Sal Solo shares the Good News of salvation. The event usually ends in prayer, sometimes continuing long after the music has ended.
Sal has appeared at youth rallies and Catholic schools across Europe and America. Out of submissions from all over the world, Sal Solo was invited to appear at World Youth Day, Rome, in August 2000. The Pope's representative in Britain, the Pro-Nuncio, wrote: "The initiatives you take on behalf of young people are most commendable and I am happy to assure you of my support at all times. I hope that your music ministry will continue to flourish both at home and abroad." (Courtesy of Catholic Music Network)
Matt Maher Concert at the Festival of Faith
May 10, 2008, 2:00 p.m.
Matt Maher has become one of the most popular and critically-acclaimed Catholic artists in the country.
Since the 2002 release of his first CD, The End and the Beginning, the rise of Matt and his music has been remarkable. At World Youth Day 2002 in Toronto, Matt’s “Litany of the Saints” was sung at the official Papal Evening Prayer, with the Holy Father singing the lyrical prayer along with 700,000 young pilgrims from around the world. Matt’s song “Just like You” and “Love Has Come” were recorded by Christian artist Kathy Troccoli for her album The Heart of Me, which received a Grammy nomination for 2002 Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year.
In October 2003, he received the Unity Award for “Best New Artist of the Year” from the United Catholic Music and Video Association. In 2004 he received a Unity Award for Praise & Worship Song of the Year for “I love you, Lord.” Matt’s music has received glowing reviews from major Catholic and Christian music publications. He has become a popular performer at youth ministry conferences and rallies, with fans dancing and singing along.
One only has to look at Matt’s lyrics to understand the depth of his love and dedication to Jesus and the church: “I want to be holy just like you…” “Love has come to show the way…” “My God is powerful, is so faithful, is wonderful to me…” “Jesus I surrender my life to you…” Of his debut CD’s title song, Matt says “We are an ‘end people’. Most of us spend out lives stuck at the end. For some the end means death, or graduation, or changing careers. We look at it all with finality. God looks at the end and says, ‘No, that’s the beginning.’ With God, death is life.
Matt released Welcome to Life in 2003 and his third album, Overflow, in February 2006. He graduated from Arizona State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music, focus in jazz performance. Matt and his band travel the globe inviting all, young and old, to explore the wonders and challenges of this life that God calls us to be.
